· Evangelical - A strong emphasis on scriptural preaching and teaching.
· Episcopal - A communion in the universal or catholic church, whose identity is rooted in the Anglican spiritual tradition.
· Church A people called together by the Holy Spirit, to worship and fellowship as a genuine community.
· St. Barnabas - A companion of Paul the apostle, whose name means "encouragement."
· God created mankind to know Him, to love Him, enjoy Him, and to serve Him forever.
· God exists in three persons--God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
· The Holy Scriptures are the revealed Word of God containing all things necessary for salvation.
· Salvation is wholly dependent on the work of God's unmerited grace through Christ's death and resurrection.
· The primary mission of the church is to welcome the seeker and strengthen the faith and life of all Christians.
· The Christian life is marked by the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control.
· God has entrusted to us the stewardship of His creation and the protection and validation of all human life.
· The faith and the life of the church is celebrated in Baptism and the Eucharist (The Lord's Supper).
· Jesus is Lord over every area of life.
· Those who live and die by faith in Christ are given eternal life--both now and in heaven.

The Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches is an evangelical, Episcopal, spirit-filled, and liturgical expression of the Church. The St. Barnabas congregation stands in the tradition of the Anglican Church of England along with such 20th Century notable writers as C.S. Lewis, J.I. Packer, and J.R. Stott. The vision of the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches is to be a contemporary Church that presents Jesus Christ while being rooted in the practices of the early and continuing historic church.

The St. Barnabas congregation was started by a small group of people that desired to worship within all three major traditions of the historic Christian Church. These traditions are the liturgical/sacramental tradition of the early church as it developed from Judaism, the evangelical tradition with its emphasis on sound biblical teaching and personal discipleship, and the charismatic tradition of being open to the Holy Spirit's leading and gifts operating within the life of the community. Initially meeting in a home, it was the desire of the founding group to affiliate with a larger body for support and accountability. We subsequently affiliated with the Communion of Evangelical Episcopal Churches in the fall of 1996, the first church in the western part of the U.S. to do so. In the spring of 1997 we began holding worship services at the Family of God Lutheran Church on Sunday evenings.
